Considering the vulnerability of email account in today’s time, it is advisable to make the most of the preventive measures offered by your email service provider. As a Yahoo! Mail user, you get to choose from different security features, such as Account Key, Two-Step Verification, App Passwords, Account Recovery Options, etc. Two-Step verification is a handy security feature that you can activate on your Yahoo! Mail account to keep it safe and secure against cyber crimes like hacking, phishing, etc.
How Two-Step Verification Feature Works?
Two-step verification feature adds an extra layer of security to your account. It works by sending a security code to your registered phone number each time you or someone else (e.g., hacker) tries to sign into your account from a new device. One will need to have this security code to get access to your account.
If you are also looking to enable two-step verification feature in your Yahoo Mail account, the following are the steps that you need to follow.
Steps to Enable Two-Steps Verification Feature in Yahoo! Mail:
1.) Firstly, sign in to your Yahoo! account and click on your “Profile name” located in the top right corner of your Yahoo account page.
2.) Click on the Account info option under your Profile name, and you will be directed to the “Account info” page.
3.) Select the “Account security” tab located on the left-hand side panel.
NOTE: You might be prompted to enter the password of your Yahoo account to get access to “Account security” section.
4.) Once you get access to “Account security” page, turn on the two-step verification feature by clicking on the “slide button” located next to “two-step verification” option.
5.) You will be prompted to enter your “mobile number” to enable the “two-step verification” feature.
6.) Once you have entered your mobile number in the provided field, click on the “Send SMS” button. You will receive a verification code on your mobile number.
7.) Enter the verification number on the next screen and click on the “Verify” button. Alternatively, you can also verify your mobile number via calling option. For that, you will need to click on the “Call me” button instead of “Send SMS” button.
8.) Once your mobile number gets verified successfully, you will see a “Success” message on your screen. After that, you will also be prompted with “Create app passwords” option. This feature is required when you are using apps such as Outlook, iOS mail, Mozilla Thunderbird, etc. as these apps don’t support two-step verification feature. In case you use any of these apps, you will need to click on “Create app passwords”. If you are not using any such apps, click on the “Skip for now” button.
