  • If your sign-in is being prevented (i.e., Thunderbird can’t authenticate) even if you know your yahoo ID and password are correct, check the authentication method. Yahoo recently changed to more secure authentication methods. By default Thunderbird attempts to use “normal password” as the authentication method but Yahoo’s server’s now block this authentication method. The authentication method I selected in Thunderbird that seems to work for Yahoo is “OAuth2” so select that for both the IMAP and SMTP servers. You’ll get a pop-up screen asking you to enter your Yahoo ID and password again. Once you do that Thunderbird and your Yahoo Mail account will be linked.
